Three reasons why it’s the perfect time for you to join ONPHA’s Board

Have you been on the fence about getting more involved in the affordable housing sector? Here’s three reasons why now is the right time to take action and join ONPHA’s 2022-2023 Board of Directors.

1. The community housing sector is facing a pivotal moment of change.

Ontario’s housing providers are facing critical changes, from the end of operating agreements and mortgages, to the province’s new regulatory framework that just came into effect on July 1.

Navigating these changes, all while recovering from a global pandemic no less, is presenting significant challenges. But where there is great challenge, there is also great opportunity. Now is the time to innovate and influence the future of the sector.

ONPHA will play an important role in setting our sector up for success for the next 30 years and beyond. Be a part of the action.

2. ONPHA is having an impact with key decision-makers.

ONPHA is coming off the heels of a successful provincial election campaign, which we led with our partner CHF Canada. As a result, we saw more affordable housing commitments from all major parties than we’ve seen in decades! Some commitments were taken directly from our 10-year affordable housing plan.

Now that the election is over, we are continuing to see the impacts of this campaign. The Premier recently indicated an increased emphasis on housing issues with the announcement of a new cabinet position, the Associate Minister of Housing.

We’re keeping the momentum going, and board members will have a critical role to play in our strategic direction moving forward.

3. Our membership is growing and diversifying.

As the sector changes, more and more housing providers are turning to ONPHA for support. Our membership is growing and becoming more diverse as housing needs expand and become more complex. Today, we represent approximately 700 members across the province, both urban and rural, large and small, and many who provide specialized supports to vulnerable groups. We’re looking for a diverse board to meet our ever-evolving membership needs.
