409 Breaking the cycle: Helping women
succeed in community housing
Wentworth, second floor
Women experiencing homelessness and complex
addiction issues face tremendous challenges in
accessing and maintaining stable housing. They
often have frequent contact with the criminal
justice system, face removal of their children
and are considered frequent users of high-cost
emergency services. Mainstay Housing runs a
program to assist women with accessing quality
affordable housing, integrated housing and
clinical supports, and a rich basket of services
to help them achieve stable housing and an
improved quality of life. After three years, the
program resulted in 75 per cent of women
continuously housed in the same place, 85
per cent reduction in unplanned emergency
department visits, 100 per cent of women linked
to primary care and 50 per cent reduction in
social isolation. Learn how Mainstay implemented
this program and achieved such high success.
